"Political correctness is really a subjective list put together by the few to rule the many -- a list of things one must think, say, or do. It affronts the right of the individual to establish his or her own beliefs." Mark Berley - Source: Argos, Spring 1998
"All of us have heard this term 'preventive war' since the earliest days of Hitler. I don't believe there is such a thing; and, frankly, I wouldn't even listen to anyone seriously that came in and talked about such a thing: Dwight Eisenhower - Source: Bob Fitrakis and Harvey Wasserman, Bush and America's Willing Executioners would be Guilty at Nuremberg, The Free Press (Columbus, Ohio), 3/2/03
Political language. . . is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind: George Orwell
Lisa began to notice an insidious double speak entering her language via politicians and media. To her it took the whole notion of Orwellian Newspeak into new heights and it was happening before her very eyes.
She still clearly remembered the day she was referred to as a ‘consumer’. She was immediately no longer a customer, a citizen, a person, a human. She became an eater, a number, a consumer statistic, a non-person.
And she watched in initial humor as the rubbish of ‘Political Correctness’ swept the globe until one day it was too late. Her own friends got caught up in the self-censoring nonsense and then took it upon themselves to act as self appointed policemen to ridicule and berate those who dare speak freely and openly as they wished. In the span of a few short years society regrouped into sudden herd mentality speech wise and began to all plod in the same direction. All speaking exactly the same.
Lisa wouldn’t tolerate it for one second. She proudly yet firmly spoke words she was taught as a child and teenager and steadfastly refused to be dictated to by self anointed speech controllers.
To her it was the end of free speech, free speech expression, and an introduction of yet another control upon society by faceless unseen un-named people.
Who were the faceless ones? Where did they live? Were they ever elected?
So she began to take notice of the changes. Apart from the nonsensical sterilization examples such as abolition of ‘man hole covers’ or ‘actresses’, Lisa noted down more sinister phrases with twisted meanings.
Police force became police units or corps even though using more than necessary force became the norm.
War Department became Defense Department even though aggression soared.
Citizens or people defending themselves became Insurgents.
Illegal apprehension and transport (kidnapping) was twisted into Extraordinary Rendition. No hint given of savage brutality nor torture.
Ethnic Cleansing replaced widespread murder and genocide crimes.
Collateral Damage is given to both humans and buildings blasted to pieces by bombs and indiscriminate acts of murder.
Food Challenged is a term used to offhandedly refer to humans starving to death.
Final Solution is used instead of genocide also.
And the more examples Lisa found, the more the truth she found about her world and how it was being hidden from not only sight but by lulling the mindsets.
