Science has indeed advanced in one spectacular area without doubt.

Poisons.

Lisa also researched the vast ways that chemical compounds are created into a bewildering cocktail of death that affects the most primitive forms of life to the most complex.

From the days that DDT was sprayed directly onto citizens as a fumigation wonder-drug through to dioxins sprayed on every food crop, the relentless poisoning has now reached the most minute creature of the sea. The chemicals that were originally nerve gas used in warfare were adapted and altered into fertilisers.

Vast amounts of insect species have been destroyed literally overnight. The most carnage has occurred not to the crop eating bugs, but to all the thousands of prey and predators that encompass the Web of life. The humble native honey bee has already been eradicated from most countries and only ‘domestic’ bees remain in increasingly diminishing numbers.

Butterflies, moths, crickets and every imaginable small insect has been bombarded relentlessly until they are either so mutated or destroyed that their function in the food chain has been lost. Forever.

Einstein once remarked “Once the bees are gone humanity will perish inside 4 years”. And now the bees are dying. No plant that depends on bees for reproduction can survive in a bee-less world.

But why would mankind even contemplate such a course let alone do it! Lisa saw that there was much more to this than money and simple financial gain and power – she saw deeper reasons appearing. She began to dwell upon the very future existence of the planet – and who stood to benefit from a poisoned and unliveable world and the fear it would bring.
